Opening Night Soiree: Celebrate the opening of the Far North Photo Festival and settle in to hear presentations from three of our guests: National Geographic’s Cheryl Zook and Kiliii Yuyan, and World Press Photo winnter, Amber Bracken. Music and good times by Miraj.


Film Photography with Ian Keefe: This workshop provides an in-depth introduction to film photography, covering camera types, film formats, exposure techniques, and post-processing methods. Participants will learn how to handle film cameras, meter light correctly, and explore both traditional and digital film development processes.


National Geographic Grants: Storytellers and researchers work on a wide breadth of projects throughout their career with various sources of funding. The process of identifying funding sources and writing grant applications can be daunting, but there are strategies that applicants can use to tailor their projects and craft strong grant proposals for different funding agencies. This workshop will introduce you to National Geographic grants and offer grant writing tips that are applicable for National Geographic grants and beyond.

*This workshop is open to anyone working in photography, film/video, audio, education, STE(A)M, science/research, and Indigenous governments/communities.


Grant Writing with Sana Ullah: The National Geographic Society (NGS) grants program provides seed funding and support to individuals who are working to address critical challenges, advance new solutions, and inspire positive transformation. In this hands-on workshop, National Geographic Society’s Senior Program Officer in Storytelling, Sana Ullah, will talk about how to develop a project summary and build a storytelling portfolio for funding opportunities in and outside of NGS.

*In preparation, attendees must bring a notebook and their current portfolio and/or a collection of their strongest images, video, audio, publications and writings.

Part One: A Guided Photo Walk with Tommy Jorge

*Meet at Explorer Hotel Lobby - Saturday, March 1 @ 4pm. Participants should bring a camera (of any kind, preferably not an iPhone but if that is all you have then it is ok). Dress for being outdoors.

Part Two: Colour Grading & Editing with Tommy Jorge

*Meet at Explorer Hotel , Kat A Room - Sunday, March 2 @ 10:30am. Participants should bring their photos from the Photo Walk on a drive or memory card. We encourage you to bring a laptop with Adobe Lightroom, if possible, but not required.


The Magic Sweater with Kiliii Yuyan: National Geographic photographer, Kiliii Yuyan, leads this fun and practical workshop that aims to help participants find their unique aesthetic and incorporate it into their storytelling. From there, Kiliii will discuss how to turn single images into great stories that will catch the attention of readers and editors alike.

*In preparation, attendees must bring at least 2-3 magazines or photobooks that they do not mind damaging. It will be warm inside the Arctic Duchess wall tent but we highly suggest people dress for being outdoors (have winter boots, parka, toque and gloves on hand just in case).


Everyone Has a Story with Amber Bracken: Amber Bracken, whose intimate and engaging work has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic, The Globe and Mail and more, leads participants through an exercise in “active listening” as a way to build connections with people that results in beautiful and nuanced portraiture.

*Participants should bring a camera of any kind. iPhone's are not encouraged but accepted if that is the only option. It will be warm inside the Arctic Duchess wall tent but we highly suggest people dress for being outdoors (have winter boots, parka, toque and gloves on hand just in case).
